Privacy Policy — Site Capture

Last updated: 19 August 2026

Site Capture ("the app") is a field data-collection companion for building and site inspections. This policy explains how the app handles your information.

In short: Site Capture has no server of its own. Your photos, field data and location are stored on your device and are never uploaded to us. There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and nothing is collected in the background. A few optional features do send data to Google or to our payment provider, but only at the moment you choose to use them, and section 5 lists every one of them.

1. Information the app handles

2. Permissions and why they are used

3. On-device processing

The "Scan text" feature reads text from a photo using on-device text recognition. Photos are not uploaded anywhere for this — the recognition happens entirely on your device.

4. Storage and retention

All data you capture is stored locally in the app's storage on your device. We do not receive or store any of it. Your data stays on your device until you delete it — per photo or project, or all at once with Reset this device in Settings — or until you uninstall the app.

5. Optional features that send data off your device

The app works offline. The features below are the only ones that use a network, each is optional, and each runs only when you actively choose it. Nothing here happens in the background.

FeatureWhat is sent, and to whomWhen
Asset Match (AI photo sorter) The photo (resized) and the list of asset names in that project are sent to the Google Gemini API, using an API key you supply and which is stored only on your device. Google's handling of that request is governed by the terms of the Google account whose key you use. Only when you tap Asset Match. The feature does nothing at all until you add a key in Settings.
Search with Google Lens The photo is handed to the Google app installed on your device, which searches it. From that point Google's own privacy policy applies. Only when you tap Search with Google Lens.
Open location on a map The coordinates of the photos you selected are passed to Google Maps or Google Earth on your device, as a link or a map file. No photo or field data is sent. Only when you open a location from the map menu.
Unlocking with a license key Your license key and a device activation identifier are sent to our licensing provider, Polar (polar.sh), to check that the license is valid. This is repeated occasionally in the background while a license is active, so that a cancelled subscription stops working. No photo or field data is involved. When you activate a key, and periodically thereafter. Removing the license in Settings ends this.
Subscribing in the app The purchase is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment details. The app only asks Google whether a subscription is currently active. When you subscribe, restore a purchase, or the app checks your subscription status.
Rating the app The rating card is shown by Google Play itself. We do not see your rating or review, and the app cannot choose who is asked based on anything you have done. Occasionally after you complete an export, and when you tap Rate Site Capture.

If you never use these features, the app makes no network connections at all.

6. Exporting your data

The app has no backend. When you export a project, you choose to save the file to your device or share it using your device's own share sheet. The app does not transmit exports to us or to any third party.

7. No ads, analytics, or tracking

The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking software. We do not build a profile of you, and nothing you capture is used to train any model by us.

8. Children

The app is intended for professional and business use and is not directed to children.

9. Your choices

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest change, and the copy inside the app is the same document as this one.
